Xi’an is one of the cities with the most serious geological disasters in China,there are fourteen fissures in the urban area in all, which caused serious damage tobuildings, municipal engineering and others. This paper summarizes the research andits progress at home and abroad about the city fissures, and sums up the effect ofground fissures to the urban environment, based on comprehensive analysis of thedistribution of ground fissures in Xi’an, activities, characteristics, and many otherfactors. The damage of ground fissures to urban environment are explored, and therelations between the distribution and activities of urban ground fissure anddevelopment of urban environment are analysed. The control measures to engineeringdisasters caused by ground fissures are described, and targeted prevention strategiesfor failure mode of urban development caused by ground fissures under differentsituation are proposed. The damage of the city buildings, underground pipelines andurban road caused by ground fissures activities are focused on, and the preventionmeasures are put forward aiming at the respective features of each situation. Thestudy about prevention and treatment programs of road fissures are conducted, Basedon the gap that there are few research for it. The artificial temporary measures of theroad, measures to strengthen the roadbed treatment, artificial connection handlingmeasures, root piles treatment measures and soil soaked processing measures areproposed. The effect of measures to strengthen the roadbed treatment to groundfissures are key research contents. The midas software simulation results show thatthe destruction of ground fissure activities on the urban road can be effectivelyalleviated by appropriate imposing roadbed cushion thickness and increasing theroadbed intensity layer by layer, based on the Mohr-Coulomb model.Given the fact that the study mainly focus on prevention measures, and there arefew researches on reasonable use of ground fissures, the study how to use groundfissure area are carried out. This paper clear the available ground fissure area, afterfull analysis of the locations and regions environment of Xi’an ground fissures andcombined with the overall planning of urban development. The typically ground fissure is selected, and available ground fissure area is calculated, according to theavoiding the distance of the building to ground fissure. The measures of green andgeopark construction are carried out to reasonably use ground fissure area by overallplanning, in order to realize the target of ecological construction and utilization inground fissure.
