Radiation calibration is the basis for quantitative application of remote sensing. In orderto improve the HJ-1CCD camera utilization and data quality, it is necessary to carry outvarious radiometric calibration methods of HJ-1CCD cameras. The relative radiometriccalibration method based on the desert scene with the characters that does not require fieldmeasurements, has high frequency and simple operation, it can compensate the lack of sitecalibration that need high cost and calibration frequency limited, thus causing widespreadconcern in domestic and foreign scholars. This paper carried out the radiometric calibration ofHJ-1CCD cameras based on desert scene. Specifically include the following aspects:(1) For site calibration with the problems that need high cost and calibration frequencylimited, cross calibration is difficult for images registration, it is necessary to research thehigh frequency radiation calibration method based on desert scene. Summarized the researchstatus of radiometric calibration based on desert scene, derived the calibration formula and putforward the processes of this method.(2) Introduced and analysised the Dunhuang radiation calibration site and TaklimakanDesert study area. The analysis indicated that the Taklimakan Desert study area and theDunhuang radiation calibration site with consistency characteristics. In addition, carried outhigh-precision site calibration on Dunhuang radiation calibration site during August2010, andaccessed the HJ-1CCD cameras field calibration coefficients.(3) Respectively using the images of Dunhuang radiation calibration site and theTaklimakan Desert study area during August,2010as basis, compared with the images of theother time, and got the time series attenuation coefficients. The results shown all of the CCDcameras of HJ-1were relatively stable during2010. Finally, based on the calibrationcoefficients of Dunhuang radiation calibration site, obtained the HJ-1CCD time seriescalibration coefficients based on the desert scene.(4) To verify the authenticity of the calibration coefficients, this paper comparative andanalysis the calibration coefficient of Dunhuang radiation calibration and the mean of thecalibration coefficient based on desert scene. In addition, compared the apparent products (apparent reflectance and apparent radiance products) that simulation from the InnerMongolia radiation calibration site and inversion from the calibration coefficients based ondesert scene. The results showed that the relative differences between them are small, andfurther proved the feasibility of this method.
