According to coal basin analysis idea and procedure, this thesis generally studieson sedimentary characteristics and coal accumulation regularity of Taiyuan Formationin Yuci Region, with the method of combining a large number of actual survey data inrecent years with predecessors’ achivements, using research approaches ofsedimentology, petrology, paleontology and stratigraphy.Yuci Region is located in the middle of Shanxi Platform, in the northeast marginof Qinshui syncline. The regional subject position is in the transition zone of Jinzhongnew subsidence and northwest wing of Qinshui syncline. The region has a complexstructure. In Yuci Beishan Coal Mine Company, it develops with a series of NNE-trending faultage, forming mountain fault zone, bordering on Jinzhong newsubsidence, controlling northwest low moutain areas and southeast rolling groundareas.Taiyuan Formation is the main coal bearing formation in Yuci Region. This thesisstudies on rock categorie, lithological characteristics and sedimentary structures indetail, and also divides sedimentary systems and analyzes sedimentary genesis facies. The study shows that there are two type of sedimentary systems in Taiyuan Formation:tidal flat sedimentary system and barrier island lagoon sedimentary system. The typeof sedimentary genesis facies are mud flat facies, sand flat facies, mixed flat facies, tidal channel facies, tidal flat facies, lagoon facies, barrier island facies and so on,which manifests sedimentary characteristics and spatial distribution rules of eachsedimentary system. Meanwhile, the thesis systematically analyzes minable seamcharacteristics and quality features of coal petrography in Taiyuan Formation. Finally,in according to relationshps between paleobotany, paleoclimate, paleogeography andpaleotectonics, and the evolution of the sedimentary environment, this thesis concludes coal accumulation regularity in Taiyuan Formation.
