Mapping project of1:50000topographic diagram blank area was the successful conclusion of the end of August2011. This is a major mapping project which is one of the important initiatives to promote the country’s western development strategy. In this huge, difficult mapping, left us is real, viable and valuable experience.In this paper, according to research the selected satellite, programs, technology and theory of the mapping process in the Tarim D region in the country’s western, it is using modern and high-tech mapping such as space RS, GPS, GIS and other high-tech, which applies to the survey area of natural and geographical overview and the available information, to solve a series of problems of conventional mapping techniques can not be solved. In this thesis, the use of mapping technology include the following:1) Multi-source remote sensing data acquisition techniques: comprehensive study of the measurement of natural and geographical conditions and variety of image data may be obtained, to determine the image to obtain the technical solutions according to each of the geographical characteristics of the local geographical unit and application objectives.2) Mapping of regions in the western difficult to control and difficult technical: difficulties for conventional mapping control technology difficult to implement and give full play to the technology characteristics of satellite remote sensing and GPS, the mapping applies to the special conditions of the western control technology.3) Scarce control of aerospace remote sensing image mapping technology: It uses a GPS field measurement points, image precision positioning technology based on satellite orbits. Remote sensing images of the scarcity of western mapping control points mapping technology to significantly reduce the number of field control points.Detailed discussion mapping and processes of the field control points selected to transfer painted base map production, DOM extracted, DLG integrated and editing, and DEM to generate, the use of satellite remote sensing three-dimensional images, using a wide range of sparse control point satellite images as a whole block adjustment technology, greatly reducing the workload of the foreign industry, the integration of internal and external industry mapping, and the new mode of production, the proposed design of a digital elevation model map. Ultimately, the successful application of the Tarim region D mapping project, confirmed that the design is feasible.
