The construction of the Digital Earth is a hot and focus of GIS, and the Digital cities and Virtual Campus as an important part of the Digital Earth also show great research value and potential. Recently, more and more famous universities and research institutions have successively established their own virtual campus.This study is based on Yanbian University, taking the new branch construction as an opportunity, and in order to strengthen the internal management of school, propaganda school and enhance the visual experience of Yanbian University for external members. The thesis take the design and realization of Virtual Campus for Yanbian University as the task, and finally achieve it basicly.The development of this system includes the following technologies:RS, GIS, digital photogrammetry technology, database technology,3d modeling techniques,3D real-time browsing scene construction and development based on Unity and Google Earth, and the WebGIS secondary development technology based on ArcGIS server, and web design and publ i shing technology based on the flex framework.The research work mainly focus on the following aspects:1The digitization of basic data and database building. The main task contains the digitization of thematic maps, the integration of spatial data, the collection and editing of attribute data.2The three-dimensional model establishment of Yanbian University Virtual Campus. Establishing the three-dimensional model of the campus mian buildings using3ds max, photoshop and other software, and paste the building texture to express the real cappus environment.3The web design and publishment of WebGIS. It mainly contains the online release of ArcGIS server-based GIS services, web design based on the flex framework, software configuration, management of WebGIS server, construction and management of the system and update data.4The design and publishment of three-dimensional real-time browsing system. It mainly contains the design and publishment of three-dimensional real-time browsing system based on Unity and online publish complemente using IIS, model constructions using Google SketchUp, and3d real-time show based on Google Earth.The Virtual Campus system achieves some functions include query and locating, view management, map editing,3d browsing, gis analysis and map printing. The system trial runs for a session of time and it shows that it has an intuitive display interface, easily operational fuctions, have a positive role in campus navigation, school propagation, enrollment and campus information management.
