Ban Nameung copper polymetallitic ore deposit is located in29km east to the Xasomboun County, Vientiane Province, Laos. Discovered mineralization in this area is about3km2, with extensive skarn-type Cu, Fe, Pb, Zn, Ag, Mo and polymetallic ore mineralization.the deposit is situated at the intersection of the two most important tectonic metallogenic belts of Laos, namely the north-east Luangprabang tectonic metallogenic belt and the north-west Trongson tectonic metallogenic belt. Over the past20years, two large copper and gold ore deposits have been found in the northern section (Phu Bia mine) and southern section (Sepon mine) in the north-west Trongson tectonic metallogenic belt, another large copper ore deposit (Chatree mine) was also discovered in the southern section of the north-east Luangprabang tectonic metallogenic belt. Ban Nameung copper polymetallitic ore deposit is merely40km away from the Phu Bia copper and gold mine. From Ban Nameung mine to the Xasomboun County, distributes large amount nearly east to west geological structures, nearly EW directional Xasomboun-Ban Nameung fracture controlled the regional tectonic framework. This paper carried out a comprehensive analysis on Ban Nameung mine’s regional geological background and grological features, incorporating with the present onging geophysical and geochemical, trenching, drilling and other exploration results, through rock and mineral identification and elemental geochemistry analysis, and other methods, it gives a comparatively full discussion for the area’s metallogenic geological conditions, source of ore minerals, wall-rock alteration and ore-controlling factors, genesis and metallogenic regularity, prospecting indicators, and provides evidence for ore target prediction and guidance for ore finding program. In summary, the paper concludes that Ban Nameung copper polymetallic mine located in favorable metallogenic tectonic belt, and the tectonic with conducive to the formation of large size and even superlarge size skarn-type copper-gold ore deposits and porphyry-type copper-molybdenum ore deposits and related lead-zinc-silver ore deposit etc, the area is extremely favorable prospecting zones. Ban Nameung copper copper polymetallic ore bodies most exist in the contact zone or nearby of the Yanshanian granite intrusive body and carboniferous limestone wall rocks, it belongs to skarn-type ore deposits, skarn is the ores main host rocks as ore-controlling factor. The characteristics of the mineralization within the mining area has zonation performance: external zone is normaly lead and zinc mineralization, and the main contact zone is the copper, internal at the granitic rock side, sometime can have the molybdenum mineralization; skarn controlling the copper ore body contains magnetite, so magnetism is usually a strong indicator to find the ore; in Ban Nameung copper polymetallic ore deposit, there exist three main types of copper polymetallic ores, that is diopside skarn-type copper iron lead zinc silver ore, garnet skarn-type copper iron ore, and massive sulfide copper iron ore. Metallogenic regularities and prospecting criteria of the study area indicate that this area has good exploration potential.Systemically we discussed the mining area, geological features, summary of based on metallogenic regularity, combined with the magnetic and electrical method and other geophysical anomalies and geochemical anomalies, delineation of the four area.
