The "Digital City" of China is being carried out in full swing, after years of research andpractice, we made a series of encouraging results, accumulated a wealth of experience. GISdata is the foundation of building the "Digital City" and accelerate the progress ofsociety. However, due to different parts of the "Digital City" are built by different departments,there are same functions among each part of the system. Data in the system are different insources and data structures because of no standards, and cannot be interact with shared, thiswill result in waste lots financial and material resources, and embarrass a further developmentof the "Digital City". The Geographic Information Sharing Platform will specify the datastandards, unite the platform and provide an approach for sharing data to solve multi-sourceand heterogeneous geographic information resources, to provide real-time and comprehensivegeographic information services for government, enterprises and the public, to promotedevelopment of the " Digital Cities", to accelerate informatization of the national. More andmore departments are urgently need the geographic information sharing platform to providebasic applications for their own systems. Therefore, it is the priority to create geographicinformation sharing platform in current.In this paper, using "Beijing Geographic Information Sharing Platform" as an example,combine with one’s experience, the author researched the sharing platform developmenttheory, platform architecture, key technologies, data standard specifications and thedevelopment of system functions. And designed the architecture and functional model ofBeijing Geographic Information System, developed standards for the platform managementand maintenance, basically solved the problem of multi-source and heterogeneity, created atypical application example of platform for providing functions of get data services andpublish sharing resources to the government, enterprises and public. Promote theinformatization of Beijing. The results show a reference value for other cities in buildinggeographic information sharing platform.
