Optical tweezers are a optical trap by optical gradient force, which like an invisible tweezers, can capture and manipulate the living cells, nearly non-invasively and without mechanical contact. Optical tweezers technology is an emerging interdisciplinary field,which play an important role at life science. Since the laser has been invented, it is another important application of physical means after the laser knife. Optical tweezers is the most unique and effective instrument for the study of single living cells. The invention of optical tweezers fit the research trends of life sciences into cells, sub-cellular-level, at the same time, it provide a means of up-to-date for bio-engineering techniques.This article begins with the study background of the optical tweezers, which give a more detailed introduction of optical tweezers status and research progress, focuses on the basic principles of optical tweezers and optical tweezers conventional equipment, introduce the study progress of fiber optical tweezers, measure and discuss the optical trapping force of yeast. The full text is divided into three chapters to introduce the development of optical tweezers. In the first chapter, we introduce the development and principles of optical tweezers. Secondly, we explained equipment and structures of optical tweezers, and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of equipment. Thirdly, we capture and manipulate the yeast with optical tweezers, measure the trapping force and analyze the results, at last, give the conclusion and expect for the following experiment.
