Liaoyang shimen landslide is located in Hanling Zhen, Gongchangling, Liaoyangcity of Liaoning province, which belongs to geological disaster formed by stepopen-pit mining. Due to its significant deformation and feature characteristics, it hasgreat influence on the surrounding constructions. Considering Liaoyang shimenlandslide stability assessment project and engineering geological conditions, rockmass structure, deformation failure, mechanical parameters for rock mass, the articlestudied the formation mechanism by the geological genesis analysis method. On thefoundation of slide deformation analysis,numerical simulation method (FLAC3D)was respectively applied for analysis of the formation of landslide mechanism by theexcavation and affection under water level condition, vibration condition. limitequilibrium was respectively applied for natural condition, water level condition,vibration condition, water level and vibration condition, excavation、vibration andwater level condition. Through the above detailed study and prediction, we can obtainthe following understandings:(1) The rock mass structure development character of Shimen landslide is gentlyinclined bedding structure with upper rigid and soft lower thick layers. A plurality ofcontinuous green soft interlayer is existed in the lower part of overlying thick Quartzrock, which constitutes a landslide under plastic space. Expansion and slipcharacteristics are performed in the gravitational field effect. However, the lowershear strength rock mass is the major region penetrated by sliding surface. Accordingto the comprehensive analysis of landslide, the failure mechanism is slip–compression cracking.(2) The deformation mechanism of landslide is simulated by FLAC3D, the stressdistribution law、deformation characteristics、the change rule of the plastic zone andmechanical model of the slope in the process of stress release by excavation step,which further discusses the rock slope deformation and failure of mechanicalmechanism. Hydraulic, blasting and weathering of slope deformation played a largerrole (3) Limit equilibrium method is respectively applied for stability assessment on allworking conditions for Shimen landslide. The calculation results show that:the safetycoefficient of the two profiles is greater than one in natural condition, the profiles aresteady. In water level condition, the safety coefficient of the profiles is less than onewhen the water level is high. specifically the profiles are instable when the water levelof first profile is higher than4-6meters and the water level of second profile is higherthan10-12meters. In vibration and water level condition, the first profile is instablewhen the water level is higher than14-16meters, the second profile is alwaysinstable.In cutting condition, the profiles are all instable.
