For the complex composition and special structure, generally soft rock of red beds may slake which often lead to geological disaster. Current research on the slaking mechanism of red bed soft rock is not sufficient. By observing changes after the slaking of two types of soft rock in Hunan from microscopic view, combined establishing the energy dissipation model about soft rock of red beds slaking from the point of energy, slaking mechanism in this paper funded under the National Natural Science Foundation was revealed, on the basis of which, a measure to inhibit soft rock of red beds slaking was developed, which could be a reference to engineers.Firstly, we selected two types of red bed soft rock like classⅠand classⅢred sandstone, then detected the changes in mineral composition, chemical composition, and specific surface area, surface pondus hydrogenii value after slacking by utilizing XRD, electron spectroscopy, BET pore size analyzer and automatic temperature-programmed chemisorption analyzer, observed the changes in phase formation, morphology of the red sandstone from microscopic view by utilizing field emission scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Then we analyzed the reason why two types of red sandstone slaking by compareing detective result and the observed phenomenon.Secondly, take the soft rock slaking as a process which includes various types of energy transfer and dissipation between the internal of soft rock and the external environment, then a energy dissipation model has been established which covers variety of factors generated when general soft rock slaking. On the basis of thermal, fracture mechanics and fractal statistical strength theory, new formulas have been presented to quantitative calculate the energy absorb from external environment and the new surface energy of soft rock when slaking, then we analyzed the variation of these energy in the slaking process by an example and put forward an idea applied in dealing with the red sandstone slaking in engineering.Finally, we studyed the method to inhibitⅠred sandstone slaking which can slake easier than other soft rock of red beds. Tracked the mineral ions precipitated from rock during classⅠred sandstone immersed in distilled water by using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry technology, and analyzed the variation of ion concentration by comparing with previous results. Then on the basis of solubility product, several solution had been designed which could be used to inhibit red sandstone slaking, and being the slaking solution conducted the classⅠred sandstone slaking test respectively. The results showed that Ca(OH)2 saturated solution could inhibit red sandstone slaking most effectively. Further slaking tests were conducted by taking slaking solution which leaches out from red sand mixed with cement or lime, obtained the treatment countermeasures to inhibit red sandstone slaking by mixing with lime.
