The lead and zinc metallurgy accounts for a large proportion in the whole nonferrous metallurgical industry. Nowadays our smelting capacity is gradually increasing with more construction projects of lead and zinc smelt. All these projects have been strictly approved according to related national laws and regulations, have been performed feasibility study. Generally the conclusions of feasibility studies are positive, which with the profit rate at about 12-15%, and with their investment recovery period from 5 to 8 years. These projects should have gained their good economic efficiency and competitive power since the positive conclusions. But the fact is that the lead and zinc metallurgical enterprises are struggling with its lower profit rate that generally less than 5%, mostly at 1-3%. There are a significant gap between feasibility study conclusions and the actual results.Comparing the enterprises' actual production cost with its respective feasibility study, it is find that the main reason is the price of concentrate.Excessive growth of smelting capacity inverted results deficiency of concentrate supply. That has broken the past structure in which mines and smelt enterprises are connected as an integrated industry. Now most ore materials could get massive profit through raising its price. And the past balanced profit distribution system is getting incline to mines from smelt enterprises, and that has severely narrowed the profit space of the later. The essential resolution to change such situation rely on the national measures to adjust exist mine and smelt industry structure. But as the national macro control, it is too remote and complex to reach shortly. To get more practical and easier resolution, we must put focus on enhancing management and optimizing enterprises' structure at the same time of construction process. That would provide a solid base for good operation and cost saving in future. Same at it must optimize the structure of metallurgy project, improve recovery rate through efficient comprehensive recovery engineering. That would increase byproducts, raise profit and ensure economic benefit of the smelt enterprise.
