The Case Study About Design Management Of XH Refractory Project

Design is the key element of the whole engineering construction process. Design management serves as a bond to connect all the engineering construction processes and therefore is the most important part for an engineering corporation. In the EPC-mode engineering general contracting project, design management is still in the core position of the whole project and thus has the most important and direct influence on project quality, completion time and cost management. To enhance the study on design management is of great significance for the improvements of engineering construction management level as well as the economic and social benefits of projects.ACRE, renowned as the best coking and refractory engineering corporation nationwide, is on the track of developing into a large-scale top-ranking international engineering corporation and has been actively engaging in improving the design management level in the course of design-oriented engineering general contracting projects. With the development of global market economy, ACRE is cooperating with the companies home and abroad in various ways to take on projects together.In this paper, we carry out a case study and take the design management of XH refractory project contracted by ACRE as an example. In the first place, we elaborate on the relative theoretical knowledge about design and design management. Secondly, we introduce the current status of ACRE'S design management and point out problems we encountered in XH refractory project. Further, we analyze the reasons leading to these problems according to the previous experiences and lessons we learned in practice. Finally, based on the study case, we suggest a series of improving methods for ACRE's design management and hope that, on one hand, these recommendations can serve as advices for ACRE in undertaking similar projects in the future; on the other hand, these recommendations are helpful for the same type of survey and design companies as ACRE in their design management developments.
