Research On Energy Efficiency Convergence Of China From The Perspective Of Spatial Spillover Effect

Energy is not only the significant index of national force and people's standard of living but also the motility of economy development. In recently years, all aspects of construction have made remarkable achievements with the rapid economic growth. However, following the rapid economic growth is the huge energy consumption and environmental pollution and the contradiction between resources and the environment is becoming more serious. So how to achieve the coordinated development of resources and the environment is turning into a spotted issue in the whole world. This paper aims to assess the convergence of China's regional energy efficiency from the perspective of spatial spillover effect, and discuss the factors which affect the convergence of energy efficiency, so as to make certain suggestion to advance the energy efficiency. First, this paper starts from the theories of energy efficiency, and then analyzes the spatial disparity of energy efficiency through the calculation of the regional energy efficiency from 1998 to 2009. Second, the study tests the spatial spillover effect of China's regional energy efficiency using the method of spatial econometric, on the basis of that the paper explore the convergence of China's regional energy efficiency features. Finally, some suggestion is made to improve regional energy efficiency and consumption reduction.Through investigation, the following conclusions are given:(1) This paper estimates regional energy efficiency using the DEA method based on the total factor energy efficiency perspective. The results show that regional energy efficiency in China is taking on the disparity of descending from coastland to inland and from east to west.(2) The paper analyzes spatial spillover effects of energy efficiency by building the spatial lag and spatial error model. The results show that there is spatial spillover effect on China's energy efficiency.(3) Considering the spatial spillover effect, China's regional energy efficiency not only exist the absoluteβconvergence between 1998 and 2009. But, the eastern and the central region exists a club convergence from the perspective of region and the western region did not exist a club convergence.
