The theory of supply chain management, since the 1990s, has become a prevalent field of academic and industries research. Purchasing plays a key role in supply chain, it is directly related to production costs and service levels in the company. Purchasing in the environment of supply chain is an important way to reduce costs and meet market demand. Furthermore, it has become an important means to improve the core competitiveness of enterprises. Based on supply chain management theory, researching related issues in purchasing management of Y Company, who is currently located in a full competition of the domestic optical fiber and cable industry, is meaningful to enhance purchasing management itself, as well as to ensure a healthy, stable and sustainable supply chain.In this paper, taking Y Company as case study, after analyzing its purchasing strategy, material management, supplier management, inventory management, as well as effect of supply chain's risks to purchasing management, the optimal strategies of purchasing are purposefully proposed, including purchasing strategy re-engineering, materials category management, supplier classification management, VMI strategy optimization, as well as prevention and control measures to the purchasing risks. It's argued that adopting reasonable purchasing strategies can help companies create a healthy, stable and sustainable supply chain, as well as reduce costs and meet market demand, finally enhance the core competitiveness of enterprises. The various research methods were adopted, such as comparison, SWOT, Kraljic Model, etc, in the thesis, combining the theory of purchasing & supply chain management with actual practice in Y Company, it's not only enriched research of the theory, but also have a certain reference value to related research in other industries.
