In this paper, transect is taken as an integrated tool. Transect of the Lanzhou-Xinjiang Railway that has obvious gradients all in the natural conditions, the resource assignment and in the level of socioeconomic development is selected as a study area. The article takes the economic gradient of the transect along Lanzhou-Xinjiang Railway as the main clue and takes regional economics, development economic, econometrics and human geography as the instruction. The study is taken by the integration of qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis, dynamic analysis and static analysis and spatial analysis and quantity statistical analysis research. The thesis on the basis of a deeply study on the spatio-temporal change characteristics and present situation, draw the following conclusions:First, the absolute difference of regional economic gradient significantly expanded and the relative differences fall slowly like the waves.Second, the economic spatial patterns in transect is stable, the polarization trends is evident, the distribution is imbalance. The economic gradient in transect between high and low regions is expanding. The differences of internal economic gradient in high and low regions are also expanding. What's more, the regional economic gradient change is larger in high area than in the low.Third, regional differences of the economic strength are clear; and the geographical distribution is extremely imbalanced, the economic gap between counties is great.Forth, area along the transect with 23 counties can be divided into four gradient area. Those are the high gradient area, the middle gradient area, the potential low gradient area and underdeveloped low gradient area. From the analysis of results, there are obvious gradient differences in transect. The fact is that the high gradient areas relatively advanced are not the highest gradient value and relatively developed counties also appear in low gradient regions. Finally, on the basis, advanced some related policies and proposals to coordinated development of regional economy of transect.
