With the development of economic globalization, the influences of transport on the regional economic increase gets even more complicated. The current empirical research shows that, different theories, methods, models, sample selection, data sessions and data quality, and the traditional econometric are based on time dimension and the single factor analysis, and the relevant empirical research methods are lagging behind. This paper takes the economy in Chongqing as the research object, makes research on the relationship between transportation and regional economic growth in two steps:Firstly, it makes dynamic analysis of the effect of transport development on the regional economic, by using data of Chongqing from 1997 to 2009: based on co-integration theory, and Granger causality test, this paper measures the actual situation of the transport industry in Chongqing from investment of traffic infrastructure and scale of traffic. In the short term data, there is volatility in the influences of investment and scale of traffic infrastructure on the economic increase; however, co integration test shows that there exists a stability long-term relationship between whatever investment or scale of traffic infrastructure and economic growth in the long term.Secondly, the article selects 13 years'data of Chongqing after it became municipality, tests the degree of influence on urban economy in different transport modes by using data envelopment analysis (DEA) in roads, ports, rail and air transport. Research has revealed that there is an interrelation between transportation and economic growth that they could promote each other, so the follow-up analysis on the basis of it is objective. Within the given time, the paper tests the degree of influence on economy in different transport modes, that is, the contribution different transport modes makes on regional economy, by using data envelopment analysis (DEA), and validity analysis of urban economy from roads, ports, rail and air transport. At last, this thesis makes clear the contribution different transportation modes makes to Chongqing's economy after it became municipality, and makes further study whether the current mode of transportation fits for the effectiveness of urban economic. Road, Port has always been the dominant ways of transportation in Chongqing, and makes great contribution to the economy of Chongqing. But with the development of economy, when a transport mode is in the low effectiveness, the overall effectiveness of a city will show an invalid state, the pure port mode can't achieve the promotion of the urban economy. Thus, the steady development of coordinated transportation can contribute to the urban economy; a reasonable synergy must exist in different traffic modes; a simple mode of transportation does not support the entire development of the transport industry, we must establish a scientific transport system, so various transportation modes could promote the development of urban economic in a of scientific way.
