| Coal resources in Jiangsu province is limited, however, the coal consumption of Jiangsu keeps increasing year by year. With the contradiction between supply and demand is prominent, Jiangsu needs a lot of coal transferred from other provinces. For Jiangsu province, there are mainly two coal resources outside the province:the first resource is Shanxi and Shaanxi region, which is the energy base of China. The second resource is neighboring provinces such as Anhui, Shandong, Henan and etc. The transport manners for Jiangsu to transfer coal from other provinces are two:rail transport and rail-water combined transport. Moreover, the consumption area of coal in Jiangsu concentrates on Xuzhou, alongside the Yangtze River and the southern area of Jiangsu, consequently the inner-province coal traffic is also busy. The coal by rail is dispatched through middle transport passage, south transport passage, Jing-Guang Railway, Jing-Hu Railway, Long-Hai Railway, etc. After converging at Xuzhou hub, the vast majority of coal will be transported to the south by LongHai-Xinchang Railway and Jing-Hu Railway. The coal by rail-water combined transport is dispatched through northern coastal ports such as Qinhuangdao Port, etc. and river ports such as Yichang Port, Wuhan Port, Yuxikou Port, Nanjing Port and Xuzhou Port, etc. and shipped to ports of downstream of Yangtze River. The transport capability of coal railway transport passages in Jiangsu Province is calculated by constructing the calculation method based on long-term observation and investigation and references. The estimation results are shown as follows:at present, although some rail passages capacities are released with the opening of Hu-Ning Inter-city Railway, the use of railway transport resources is irrational in Jiangsu; rail technical levels are uneven; and some lines are busy, others are free. The overall transport capability of coal transport port in Jiangsu is lower, and the degree of specialization of coal transport port is not sufficient. The problems including coal loss and environmental pollution occur during coal transit. In the future, by separation of passenger trains and freight trains, construction of the new railways, and reformation of the old railways, the coal railway transport passages will be improved substantially and the current transport capacity gap will be filled effectively. About coal rail-water combined transport, with the construction of "Two vertical and four horizontal" high level lane network, the transport capability of river transport will be improved, and Xuzhou Port (coal shipment port), Huaian Port (composite coal transport port) and Yangkou Port (coal transit port) will have high potential of coal transport. In addition, with the construction of deep-water channel of Yangtze River, large tonnage ships can enter Yangtze River directly. Some ports along Yangtze River may no longer take coal transit task. |
