Research On The Development Of Dark Tourism

Dark tourism is an ancient form of tourism; it has become a focus overseas, especially in North America, however, the domestic research is a little deficiency. Based on the summary of overseas literature, and based on the summary, statistics, analysis of domestic literature, this article conducts some of the basic theoretical issues of the development of dark tourism.This paper can divide into five parts. Chapter one is introduction, presents the research background, significance, research methods and ideas, meanwhile summarizing the literatures of overseas and domestic. Chapter two includes the basic theory of the development of dark tourism, such as the content of dark tourism, "dark tourism spectrum", the types of dark tourism, the happening mechanism of dark tourism, the basic attributes of dark tourism. Chapter three is the relative theory of dark tourism, including the notion of "in populo", Kruskal algorithm of Graph-theory. Chapter four is about the research on the development of dark tourism, the main content are the classification of products, market research, development model research, strategy research, impact studies, circuit design research and so on. Chapter five:Conclusion and discussion, pointed out that the conclusions, deficiencies of this study and the future research directions.This paper introduces the common-existence notion of "in populo" in the research of dark tourism (or heritage tourism), discussing its notion, causes, significance; proposed a new method of classification of dark tourism. It overcomes the defect of former classification method only from demand side (the view of tourists) or the supply side (destination). It also clearly defined the direction of dark tourism, meanwhile discussing the happening mechanism of dark tourism. However, due to the lack of research data, this study can only rely on the existing literature. The future research should be focused on the interaction mechanism of "three area" phenomenon of dark tourism. Many foreign scholars classified the research of dark tourism into heritage tourism; the further research can with the perspective of heritage tourism.
