Cross-Culture Project Management Study

With enhancing trend of world economic integration and restriction removal on international capital flow and foreign investment, qualities of multinational projects have been dramatically increased. Simultaneously the culture becomes critical to economical activities as cultural backgrounds have been influencing not only peoples tyle of thinking, talking and working, but also their thoughts and behaviors. Several countries participates the same projects, but cultural conflicts normally happen as the cultural differences based on different values, ethics, customs, etc.The paper takes international cooperation project between Jichai and bp company, as an example, to analyze the current managerial problems and difficulties originated from different cultures by using the cross-culture theory. The paper consists of four parts. Chapter 1, General Preface puts forward the background, purpose, methods and structure of the paper.; Chapter 2,summarize the Cross-culture Cooperating Project Management Theories; Chapter 3, the paper discuss the Problems Collection of Cross-culture business cooperating process; Chapter 4,the paper offer a Problem solving of Cross-culture business cooperation-----Rumalia Project building model. During the exploring period, the paper enumerates the problems caused by the difference cultures, during the integration period, adopts structure- decompounding working models and the selection, training of the managers to solve the problems during this period. At the last Innovation period, put forwards a new cross-culture cooperation idea, to find and cooperate with Iraq servicing company. This idea can not only against the culture conflict, but also save the servicing charges.With the increasing chances of cooperating with other countries, We Chinese have already accumulated lots of experiences. But in the actual operation, there are always some unsloving problems. The paper aims at the problems of Rumalia project, analyze the problems based on "humanism", ask the managers realize more about the cooperators' culture, establish a common cultural management system based on the realization of each others. In the forth part, the paper analyze the different running periods of Rumalia project, offer suitable strategies, to reduce the negative influence of culture shock to the minimum.We hope this paper can be helpful for the promotion of cross-culture cooperation project and Chinese relevant international projects.
