China is an agricultural country with a large population. Cultivated land is the most fundamental resource for agricultural production, thus the quality of the cultivated land is a direct element for the agricultural production. Therefore, research and analysis of the cultivated land is of great importance. Since the program of'Soil Testing and Formulated Fertilization'has been deeply implemented nationally, fruitful achievement has been achieved. The Ministry of Agriculture carried out the program of'Farmland Assessment'based on the previous achievements. The'Soil Testing and Formulated Fertilization'project is essential to the understanding of the cultivated land situation and the modern agriculture development promotion. It is also very helpful to find out the fertilization condition, nutrient distribution, fertility level and the farmland degradation of cultivated land, which is a catalyst for the agricultural modernization and sustained development. This thesis studied and discussed the process and method of farmland productivity evaluation which based on GIS technology and applied it into the'Soil Productivity Assessment of XuanWei city'project. In this project, the combination of GIS and agricultural technology is applied to evaluate the farmland fertility. Our team collected, organized and analysis the natural and economic data of the cultivated land. Then we formulated an evaluation model with the ArcGIS to classify the cultivated land accurately and rapidly. The classification is concluded in the CLRMIS, which provided timely and effective service for the decision maker and farmers. It also provided scientific proof for the structural adjustment, cultivated land protection, scientific fertilization, and land to forestry concession, water saving agricultural and ecological construction.Soil testing and formulated fertilization based on GIS technology and proper evaluation methods can effectively reduce the human, material and financial resources in evaluation process. It also can improve the accuracy and help to organize, manage and update the evaluation achievements.
