IT capacity management is an essential part of IT service management, it is a prerequisite for good IT planning. It is dilemma for organization to keep appropriate IT capacity. Excessive capacity storage causes unnecessary costs. Lack of capacity will results in decline of the availability and customer dissatisfaction. It is very expensive to expand IT capacity when emergency incidents and problems happen.This paper focus on IT capacity management and make a systemic study of capacity management in IT services management literatures including:ITIL,COBIT,ISO20000 and HP and Microsoft IT management framework. This resulted in a pool of IT capacity management items. Based on these items, this paper construct a model of IT capacity management applied the CMM theory. The model includes seven key process areas:service catolgue management, component capacity management, service capacity management, availability management, business capacity management, demand managemnt and financial management IT capacity management is divided into five levels:Initial capacity stage, monitoring and analysis stage, the ability to protect stage, demand management stage and supply and demand equilibrium stage.This model can justify the level of the organizations'IT capacity management, it provide an evolution path for organizations to improve.
