At the present time, the length of the highway growing dramatically with the development of the technology and the science. Owing to the increasing amount of the motor vehicle and the lower price, it is not difficult to have someone's own car. With the increasing number of privet motor vehicle, the highway is not quiet anymore, we are warned by the terrible accident which happens so frequently. To reduce the number of the tracing accident, more and more scientists devote themselves to the automotive collision warning system. In the first place, this paper creates the overall design for the automotive collision warning system, which can be divided into three parts:the information collecting, central processing, acousto-optic alarm and display. Then we discuss the key technique. We improve the traditional safe distance model by analyzing the moving state of the motor. The new safe distance model can be performed which can remind the alarm distance or the danger alarm distance. In view of the range-velocity coupling will have a direct effect on the accuracy of the calculation and it also have a further effect to the whole system's performance, we study the accurate velocity-measuring. In view of the range-velocity decoupling on the single objective, we make the spectrum who has the same target set off to each other; In view of the decoupling on several obejects, we use the velocity pairing to simplify the objective circumstance, then using the area pairing for the range-velocity decoupling. Lastly, we use the chip TMS320VC5402 as the CPU and the control chip. We simulate the result of the experiment using the software and the hardware which based on the peripheral circuit.
