Infrared pre-warning system gradually occupy an important position in the modern defense system of low-altitude combat, to which National military-industrial sector pay a great deal of their attention and give a very good research and discovery investment, due to its characteristics of relative small size, light weight, good concealment and anti-electromagnetic interference compared to the early warning radar system. Infrared small target detection is a very critical and decisive technology in the research of passive infrared early warning system. Study of real-time infrared small target detection technology has a significant impact on the improvement of viability of one's own facilities and the enhancement of capabilities of our military's low-altitude defense.Because of the fact that the flight target from a long distance represent as a dim signal with low signal to noise ratio which almost do not has exist shape and size characteristics and the interference of background clutter and noise of the system, it becomes a challenging and meaningful research to ensure adequate detection probability under the enough low false alarm rate.Firstly, In this paper, the imaging model of infrared target and the noise distribution which impact the performance of small target detection is analyzed based on the early warning platform of Infrared array detector; Secondly it comes the In-depth study and comparison of some widely used current methods of background suppression, and on this basis the infrared background suppression algorithm for our systems is proposed. Then based on depth research and analysis of cutting-edge technology for target detection it describes the classification method of gradient-based adaptive background and the improvement of traditional Robinson edge detection filter and then put forward the innovative Robinson dual-template matching and fusion technology as well as the approximate gradient of Robinson filter calculation based on this improvement and thus to achieve a new classification method of adaptive background, Thus on the basis of the background classification it achieves a valid test to the small or dim target in infrared image and makes it simple, convenient and saving processing time and resources; Finally, it summarize the throughout infrared small target detection algorithm in this paper, point out its shortcomings, the development and application of this algorithm for the prospect.
