With the fast development of digital world, media resources such as Internet video, cable & mobile television are improving rapidly, media end devices such as personal computer, LCD and mobile phone are becoming intellectualized and popularized, and communication technologies such as 3G, WIFI and LTE are optimized and promoted. These technologies equip various devices with stronger and stronger service functions, and also bring users diversified and high quality entertainment service.In recent years, introduction of digital home implies that end devices should provide not only strong service function, but also interconnection between devices using intelligent networking to provide perfect service to solve information Islands problem. In this dissertation, a family rich media soft terminal system is designed and developed based on IMS network of China Telecom. Family rich media soft terminal is to meet user requirement of multi-source sharing of various media resources and interconnection of diverse media end devices. Its function is to realize networking of intelligent devices to ensure the resources and service can be shared.The system can run on different terminal, such as PC, set-top boxes, PDA, etc. In this dissertation, set-top box is developed on SMP8655 and use the controller as the input and control device. With Qt to develop graphic user interface, a family rich media interconnection service system is developed to a cross platform and stable system based on IMS, UPnP framework and Xml protocol. In the end of the dissertation, system operation on Windows, Linux and set-top box is presented. Compared to traditional digital home soft terminal, this system is working on different platforms and not limited to internal devices networking in one family, and realizes the interconnection between families. It's the foundation of digital home designing and development. Future application and development of family rich media service is discussed in this dissertation.
