At present, the second generation mobile cellular network (GSM) has a wide range of applications with an almost perfect network coverage. With a rapid increase in the number of mobile users and communication business diversification, the main focus of the GSM network turns from achieving perfect network coverage, to the promotion of the network capacity. With an ensured good coverage in the premise, how to meet the user's demand and let the network support more business with less money is the main objective of network optimization carried by the operator. The mobile communication network environment is rather complex along with user's behaviors varying in time and regional distribution, all these lead to the differences in regional business situation, which will change accordingly. However, these changes cannot be predicted in the early stages of the network construction. Therefore, we need the network optimization to adjust the network resource allocation, balance the network load so that the mobile communication network can be more adaptive to the actual user's requirements. There are many optimization methods to increase the capacity of the network and improve the utilization of the channel with, different influences on the network. For different types of areas, a proper method should be adopted with respect to the characteristics of the area. Therefore, this thesis is, based on the actual data from the real network, analyzes the following three methods: open power saving function, flexible deployment of channel resources and network performance compression. The effect as well as the advantages and disadvantages of these methods are also investigated.
