With the development of mine automation, distribution network plays a critical role in the safe and efficient production of mine. Modern coal mines have larger numbers of mechanical and electrical equipments. On the other hand, the outlets of underground substation are various and long. All of these lead to a complex high-voltage distribution network. Currently, most of coal mines have not installed fault location system. When fault happens, they depend on peoples to check cables to find the fault. This method is not only time-waste, but also has blindness which is hard to protect safe and efficient run of the distribution network.This paper studied the structure of distribution network and built the mathematical model of the system. Through the study of fault location algorithm, we designed an intelligent location algorithm based on graph theory which is applicable for coal mine distribution network. And through the software design of MCGS, MATLAB, Database, This paper realized the precise fault location, real-time display, alarm and other functions of the coal mine distribution network. The fault location system designed by this paper used the theory of fault detection method, and realized by the design of wireless sensor networks combined with ground high-speed data acquisition device. This fault location method overcomes the defects of traveling wave method and impedance method which are not available to distribution network.This paper used a new technology of 21st century---wireless sensor networks. By advanced communication technology and interface principles, this paper solve the problems of network collisions, hidden nodes and the communication between MCGS and base station (MSP430 MCU).In terms of software, the system use MCGS and MATLAB as the core. By the use of sophisticated software interface and the idea of each other, the monitoring system not only has a friendly interface but also has powerful computing capabilities and flexibility which provide a good platform for complex algorithms.On the other hand, according to the needs of the system, we design a mine Wireless Fault Indicator by advanced detection and communication technology together with Zibo Yuanxing Co.,Ltd. The Wireless Fault Indicator was designed by standard communication interface which was not only used in this system, but also been pushed to the market.
