The development of global network and multimedia technology has exploded all kinds of data and information, which makes a great need of a faster speed and a plurality communication mode. And then, as the higher requirement of the system of data transmission and communication, the important of light network has become more and more apparent.This article discussed the technical bottleneck of DWDM system and established the necessity of research of Raman fiber amplifier by comparing several currently used optical amplifier, such as erbium doped fiber amplifier, Raman fiber amplifier, semiconductor fiber amplifier. We elaborated the Raman amplifier principle and spread out the discussion from the stimulated Raman scattering effect, and make the study of Raman amplifier gain characteristics and frequency spectrum characteristics. We designed a reverse 4 pump Raman fiber amplifier which has pragmatic value in dense wavelength division multiplexing system. This Raman fiber amplifier could amplify the signal light in a super wide range between 1509nm to 1626nm, the gain in the range of 6 12dB is adjustable, C band gain flatness is less than 1 and noise is less than OdB, reserved L band pump interface to make the system expansion easy. According to the basic design concept of Raman fiber amplifier, we designed the internal optical path structure of the prototype and calculate the pump power according to the gain and the flatness and other key indicators, and then we selected suitable optical device to produce the prototype, meanwhile we made the integration and optimization of manufacturing process, at last we made the verification and testing to the prototype and recorded the detailed test data, analyzed the problems in the process of producing and testing, found the solution of all the problems. At the last part we make a comprehensive summary of the whole research and analyze the insufficient and prospect the Raman fiber amplifier development trend in future.
