With the development of high-definition video applications, the low bit rate and high image quality of the H.264 standard has a wide range of applications. However, this low bit rate high-quality algorithm, did greatly increase code complexity and demanded the higher performance of processor. Under this Background, this thesis studies on the design of a H.264 HD video decoder which is based on TilePro64 multi-core Processor, fully tapping the parallel processing capability of the multi-core processor platform to meet the demand for real-time video applications.The multi-core processor, high-definition video technology, video compression technology and the H.264 decoder's key technology, such as the entropy decoding of the H.264 decoder, intra prediction, motion compensation, integer transform, quantify and de-blocking filtering, are summarized in this thesis as the technical background.Based on the design objective of high-definition video decoder, this thesis proposes the overall structure of the multi-core Hight-definition decoder, including the overall design of the decoder, the multi-core decoder on the platform of TILERA with the focus on the optimization plan and pipeline design of the multi-core processor, and on the parallel decoding algorithm based on the data and function. In the later part of this thesis, a summary and outlook is carried out on the development of the decoder based on multi-core processor.
