Position sensitive detector (PSD) is an optoelectronic devices based on semiconductor's lateral photoelectric effect. Because of its high location resolution, fast response, no scanning and simple processing circuit, suitable for measuring the location, distance, displacement, angle, and other physical measurement, it get more and more widely used in in industrial inspection and surveillance, aviation docking, robotics sensing and other areas.This paper firstly describes the classification of the PSD and the status and results of research and development of PSD at home and abroad. For the current shortcomings of unity of measurement of the PSD's performance parameters, we propose a method for detecting the performance of PSD, which can simultaneously measure position sensitivity, position linearity, response sensitivity, spectral response, time response, dark current and other parameters of the PSD.Then, we analyze the principle of sensitive position of PSD, the PSD parameters under test, describe the theory of indicators for each parameter.After determined the PSD Parameters being measured, we discuss in detail how to build a test platform. This paper starts with the instrument, the circuit, and the program, breaks down the experimental platform and solves it one by one.In this experimental platform, the light source, monochromator, stepper motor and data acquisition instrument are purchased from manufacturers, and some need for secondary development. Using the mature product will help us to improve the accuracy of results and reduce the complexity of the experimental platform.For the circuit design of the experimental platform, this paper take a modular analysis method, and simulate a part of the circuit using Proteus to reduce development difficulties, speeds up the development progress of the experimental platform.The experimental platform uses the MCS-51 to control the circuit. For the MCU programming, we also take modular analysis methods, which divide the program into several parts. After we discuss in each, we raise the overall design. So, it is the bottom-up design.After the experiment platform, we measure six performance indicators of pillow-shaped two-dimensional PSD. We measured that the size of the PSD's dark current is about 2nA, response time is around 2μs, non-linearity is 3.046% and so on. Our results and conclusions are basically consistent with the theoretical value, to prove the usefulness of the experimental platform.
