With the development of the automotive industry, road traffic accidents have become a serious threat to people's lives. With the accident rate is rising, more and more experts and scholars emphasis on the road traffic safety. So, the experts introduced the wireless network technology into the inter-vehicle communication. Then the Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANET) is appeared. In VANET, the vehicles have high mobility and change frequently in network topology. So, when the increase in the number of nodes of vehicles, the cost of the network will increase rapidly. And this will impact on the network scalability. In order to manage the traffic node location, the location management was introduced into self-organizing networks VANET. Then the location management can achieve the purpose of reducing the network overhead. In this paper, Gauss-Markov model will be proposed, and introduce a new location management for VANET. It will have a reliable communication under low overhead because of the new location management.First, analyzed the location management and location services management related issues of VANET. And discussed and analyzed the advantages and disadvantages of Ad Hoc network and VANET location management strategies.Secondly, analyzed the mobility-assisted location management, and then put the Gauss-Markov model into location management in VANET. Then the paper proposed a new location management GMLM that is more suitable for reliable communication between vehicles. More analyzed the location update and the location query cost overhead. Finally, the paper discussed the location service management of steps for research interpretation. After a detailed analysis of the region-based location-service management protocol (RLSMP) for VANET, the paper introduced a location services management based on Gauss-Markov model (GMLM+LSU). The new location management had a smaller overhead and the end-to-end delay for more reliable communication. The last but not least, in the NS2 Modeler simulation, the improved location management GMLM and GMLM+LSU could build the network, node and process mode, and collect simulation data including the end-to-end delay and the overhead cost. Then, compared with the location management MALM and RLSMP, the novel location management scheme could reduce the end-to-end delay and the network location management cost.
