Active power filter can compensate the various harmonic components which generate by the load and the grid side to clean the grid, and this is studied after the eighties of the 20th century. In this paper, with the study of the shunt active power filter, the simulation of the detection algorithms of APF is present.In the paper, the basic principle of active power filter and classification is described first, through the comparison of various detection techniques, and based on instantaneous reactive power theory, the improved ip-iq theory is proposed to used in the shunt active power filter. It combined how to control the voltage of the DC capacitor to analyze the benefits of the harmonic compensation in the shunt active power filter, then through a variety of simulation conditions and results to make a in-depth analysis and discussion.At the start of the study, the generation of the harmonic and how to pick up the harmonic are simulated, then the basic modeling and simulation of the instantaneous reactive power ip-iq algorithm is established from which the source current and the harmonic is analyzed, and proposed one important point of the paper that how to control the DC side capacitor:the modeling of the improved ip-iq algorithm to control the DC side capacitor, and the details of the signals is analyzed in the simulation. An optimized simulation is proposed aimed to resolve the impulse current before and after the used of the APF. then a summarize is described after it. It point out that adding the DC side switching resistance or astricting the result of the PI of theΔip can control the peak current, but both of this need to sacrifice the speed of control the DC side capacitor voltage. Finally, the modeling and simulation of the sudden change of the load on the AC side is made to validate the stability of the system. The results showed that the improved ip-iq algorithm not only guarantee the stability of DC capacitor voltage control but also get the purpose of harmonic compensation, in addition, it has good stability to face the sudden change of the system.Based on the portability of S function, the control programming made by S function is proposed. The S function programmed by C can achieve the operation on the hardware, it is a charm of Simulink that it perfectly combines the Simulink block diagram of a simple and neat features and programming flexibility, and it also is the key to use the RTW. The user can program their own programs to implement a certain algorithm, in which the simulation of complex dynamic systems can be controlled more accurate.
