With the development of network technology, it is common to transmit information through the Internet. But there are a lot of insecure factors on the Internet, in order to protect the transmission of information, information hiding technology has become a subject which is being extensively researched. Information Hiding is concerned with all aspects of life, as invisible information is playing an important role in people's life and the development and exchange of multimedia information is increasing both in depth and breadth, the releasing form of which has become more and more abundant. However, some trouble appears in the transmission and exchange of information and the security of information needs some effective protection. As one of the major means of protecting information, information hiding has been widely studied and applied.This paper introduces the concept, development and research status of information hiding and its application in production and life; summarizes the principles, the basic characteristics, classification, frame models and related terms of information hiding; introduces digital watermarking and information encryption and analyses the differences of information hiding and digital watermarking and the differences of information hiding and data encryption; summarizes the common information hiding algorithm.Based on the introduction of the basic theories in information hiding and the basic knowledge in image carrier, this paper studies the application in information hiding technique with the basis of the spatial domain, i.e. based on the technology of LSB, it has explored the new technology of LSB. Spatial domain technology can do some meaningful changes in the image pixels in order to achieve the purpose of embedding information, but in practical applications, it is necessary to consider the embedded position, embedded strength and some other factors, which also determines the effect of information hiding. The principle of simple LSB technology is very simple, relatively easy to implement, but its ability in counteracting the noise is relatively weak. The new LSB technology can cause small variation of secret images and a large amount and good concealment in embedding of secret images; such phenomena as the image histogram abnormalities and asymmetry of the image statistics can be overcome and blind extraction can be realized with this new technology; both the effectiveness and safety of this algorithm is satisfying, i.e. the hidden effect is good, which meets the the requirements of good hidden capacity and good transparency.Based on the new LSB technology, the image security transmission system has been designed, which is mainly used in the case of protecting the security of images in transmission. Its purpose is to establish a secure image transmission path, making the secret image not known to the unauthorized users in the network and making it difficult to analyze the secret images even if the unauthorized users intercept the transmission of images. The image security transmission system is based on the image information hiding technique and can be used in campus network environment to achieve the security transmission of images. It can encrypt the secret images, embed the image into the vector and then transmit in the network. In daily production and life, the system can be used to transfer some important image files and protect the image information in transmission.In the process of designing the system architecture, the image-sending subsystem, the server subsystem and the image-receiving subsystem have been achieved and integrated. Finally, the system has been applied in the school network environment and through the practical application, it is verified that its image hiding effect is very good, the sending and receiving of images are very convenient and the system meets the requirements of secure transmission of secret images.
