The data of digital image is very large, multimedia files more efficient compression, high-speed transmission and storage has become a key research and hot spots. Theory of fractal image compression with new, high compression ratio and fast decoding, decoding resolution independence, and good image quality advantages of wide attention by the relevant scholars, is a promising development of compression methods.This paper briefly describes the image compression of the basic theory; systematically expounded the fractal image compression theories; analysis and simulation of the classical Jacquin coding scheme, the simulation found that the traditional fractal algorithm to improve reconstructed image quality on the premise that the small size of the block This increased the coding time, so that loss of this algorithm to date. According to the algorithm limitations, this paper has introduced the idea quadtree fractal compression to achieve, the rational division of the different areas of the image, so that more flexible block; and whether the principle of division proposed to improve statistical quadtree fractal algorithm, to further reduce encoding time. On this basis, the paper then based on the image energy is concentrated in the low frequency characteristics, proposed to improve based on statistical properties, wavelet quadtree fractal coding algorithm, several algorithms by simulation comparison chart and performance table, and found that more effective and practical fractal compression.
