As wireless communications and electronic warfare reconnaissance technology developing, the performances of microwave circuit systems are also higher and better. The filters which is the key RF devices and related technologies have also been extensive research and rapid development, and towards miniaturization direction. Monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) shows that we can make the active RF circuit (such as amplifiers, modems, converters, etc.) to be a chip. However, the filters in RF units containing the resonant circuits, reducing the volumes and improving the performances will be an important research direction, and may create some new research objects in circuit theory , the design of new materials and new processing technology, and many other aspects .In this paper, we aim at C-band microstrip SIR filter, mainly including the following aspects:1. Describing the step-impedance resonator (SIR) of the basic principles and related theories, analysis of the SIR filter structure and focus on an analysis of its basic features: spurious frequency, equivalent circuit, resonant length and the resonance conditions etc;2. Studying two sections SIR filter and three sections SIR filter, using the principle of SIR to design the U-SIR and the ring SIR filter. different impedance ratio between the microwave band-pass filter characteristics, using principle design of microstrip SIR filter;3. Using HFSS simulation software to designe two kinds of C-band microstrip SIR filter, and analysis the strengths and weaknesses of them.4. Comparing the test results to simulation results, and proposing to improve the performance.
