Urban public transportation is one of the most popular and typical transportation systems. It's characterized with high density, real-time fluidity, high capacity, low power-resume, and on the other hand. It also improves the urban transportation condition and reduces the environment pollution. In traditional management of urban transportation system, lag information processing and low resource utilization is a big concern. It has become an important topic How to improve the management efficiency and explode the capacity potential by modern information technology.The purpose of this article is to establish a proper information system which adapt to the Chinese urban public transportation. In the first. it analysis the current public transportation situation in big cities (especially in Shanghai). In the following part, a framework of APTS (Advanced Public Transportation System) is under discussion. This article includes the following topics: The main results are as follows:1. The framework of APTS based on the combination of GPS and GIS technology is operational, and the time and cost of construction is also under control. On the other hand, it could bring a practical efficiency in a short time.2. Clarify the requirements and roles of two aspects: management and dispatch of the enterprises, supervise of the government.3. Confliction of transformation among the industry and enterprise management4. Reduce the security issues and bad working customs.5. Research on the Real-time passenger counting method, exploding on the travel time prediction.6. Establish an evaluation system for public transportation operation.
