According to the World Health Organization's estimate, there have a very large number of blind people around the world. They have lost the visual perception, therefore, Whether at work, study or daily life, they'll feel more difficult than the average person. Currently, more and more people are concerned about this special groups. Furthermore, a considerable part of scientists have begun to study and develop machines for blind people, aiming to help them travelling safely. In the same purpose, the author has designed the guide robot based on embedded technology. The system can guide blind people to go ahead, to stop or to turn. Moreover, it can avoid obstacle in front effectively, can identify blind way, zebra crossing, and traffic lights. It can greatly make up for the blind people's visual defect, and improve the travelling safety for them.First, this paper introduces the significance of the topic and the development of the guide machines. Second, this paper discusses the overall design, hardware design, software design, experimental test, design summary, and future work outlook detailedly. The hardware design concludes core circuit board and driving circuit board. The software design concludes construction of the developing environment, signal communication between the core circuit board and the driving circuit board, and analysis of various image recognition algorithm. From the design results, the guide robot system has realized all the presupposed functions basically. It has achieved the purpose of helping blind people travelling safely. But, it can not be put into actual production. It still needs further study to improve system reliability and stability.
