With the prevalence of computers and office automation, workflow technology has developed rapidly and enjoyed widespread application, which makes many workflow management systems emerge. In order to meet the demand for application, these systems have to run with longer hours, complicated and diverse operating conditions and environments, which makes it likely to cause many exceptions during the process of operation. If the exceptions are not handled in time, they are vulnerable to lowering the efficiency of workflow management systems severely. In terms of the problem above, researches have been made in the development and current situation of exception handling, at the same time, analyses have been made in the advantages and disadvantages of work-flow exception handling. Based on the researches and analyses, case-based reasoning solutions of workflow exception handling have been put forward, and this paper mainly involves in the content below.First, case-based reasoning technology has been analyzed. According to the disadvantage that the analysis of existing case-based reasoning technology can not determine the accuracy of the results, case reasoning is put forward based on performance evaluation. The function of performance evaluation algorithm is to evaluate the solutions of the cases, amend cases with unsatisfied evaluations, and then to improve the performance of case-based reasoning.Second, every step of case-reasoning is designed to meet the requirements of handing with workflow exceptions. In the cases retrieve, Case Retrieval Algorithms is designed united with decision tree and K nearest neighbors. Such algorithms resolve the problem that the efficiency of frequently-used K Nearest Neighbors lowers when the number of cases increases and enhances the retrieval speed and accuracy of cases matching.Finally, implement will be made to the exception handling model. The result shows that efficiency and performance of workflow exception handling methods based on cases reasoning will be superior to those of traditional ones.In sum, workflow exception handling methods based on cases-based reasoning can put forward relevant solutions vary from different exceptions, improve the flexibility of exception handling, and advance the performance of exception handling.
