In recent years, with the rapid development of communications, the field of antenna has got more and more attention. Microstrip antenna has been widely used with its own small size, low cost, structural stability, easy integration and other notable features. The study suggests that antenna size is still very large for low frequency band, and it is hard to meet its compact and broadband together. Therefore, this thesis will design a mix of compact and broadband antenna, which will have a very good value. At the same time, the application of wireless communication becomes widely, which has been extended to wireless local area network (WLAN) and 3G bands, so this thesis will study and design two new dual-band antennas for further which focus on WLAN and W-CDMA antenna.The basic theory of microstrip antennas is presented first in this thesis, including definition of the microstrip antennas, sorts of microstrip antennas, the radiation theory, ways of feed and analyzing, etc. Then, according to these theories, using electromagnetic simulation software, CST, to model and simulate several design microsrip antennas of papers, and then, comparing the effect of several basic parameters on useful frequency band.The major content of this paper can divide into two parts. The first part is design of compact and broadband microstrip antenna, starting from a simple rectangular microstrip antenna, designed a new type of antenna worked in 2.4GHz frequency band that meet compact and broadband. And then there is a detailed analysis to the impact elements of the compact and broadband antenna, which final results showed the antenna meets the design targets. The second part I study and design two dual-band antennas:WLAN antenna and W-CDMA antenna used in 3G frequency bands, which obtain the best simulation results by scanning different parameters.At last, I summerize the study of this thesis, and proposed the deficiencies and some needed to improved problems in this paper.
