Microstrip antenna has a number of advantages, for example, the plane structure of light in weight, little volume and easily conformity with carrier contributes to the conformal antennas; it is easy to mass production for manufacture of low cost; it can be made very thin;and it can be easily integrated, etc. But its wideband and compact aspects are hard to realize, which limiting its more extensive application. Due to the development of the large scale integrated circuit and space technology, the compact broadband microstrip antenna has become one of the frontiers of international antenna. Based on this, the paper probed into technologies of microstrip antennas to realize wide frequency band and compact , and then simulation and discussed. The first of all, this paper introduced the development present situation and application prospect of microstrip antennas, and then discussed the microstrip antennas principle, basic parameters, the analysis method, and summarized current expansion method of microstrip antenna and the technical route to realize compact bandwidth microstrip antenna. Through the simulation analysis, we get some useful conclusions which have practical reference significance. Finally, according to the requirement of compact broadband microstrip antennas, comprehensivly using several technologies for the first time, such as PBG structure,L coaxial probe and notching technology,we give some characteristic parameters of the simulation results, make designs according with miniaturization and wideband requirements. The simulation results show that it can achieve the anticipated extended band and compact design requirements by comprehensivly using the technical route.
