In China, the intermittent gas furnace is used by the majority of medium and small nitrogen gas-making process. Because of a direct impact on gas production and quality, the optimal control of intermittent gas furnace has been highly valued for a long time. Gas furnace is widely used in synthetic ammonia, nitrogen fertilizer, city gas, ceramics,soda ash, explosives and other industries.The project involved in this article is a reconstruction project of Hubei XinShengYuan Biological Engineering Co., LTD, it focused on the optimal control of gas-making which is the important part of synthetic ammonia project. The reasonable control scheme is obtained by analyzing the characteristics and requirements of timing operational control on producing semi-water gas by intermittent gas furnace. Hill climbing method is chosen to achieve the optimization by comparison. The programming of the algorithm is finished by STEP-7. The design of hardware and software is completed for the actual needs of the project. The scheme adopts the control system which composed of industrial control computer and PLC. The YanHua industrial control computer is adopted for upper computer,the S7-300 series PLC of SIEMENS is adopted for lower computer, the industrial field bus Profibus is adopted for communication. Five ET-200M are used to collect data of input and output points for five gas-making furnaces. The system has compact structure, and it is also high reliability and stability. SIEMENS WinCC is used for PC monitoring software, it has more friendly human-machine interface, more convenient management, also it is good openness and flexibility.The operation of industrial field indicates that the system is reliable and reasonable, after putting into use, it obtained good result and has good use value.
