In order to solve the illegibility problem of underwater images, which was caused bybad light environment or day lighting inequality on the surface of the objects, this paperproposes an underwater image enhancement algorithm based on mathematical morphology.The paper introduces the differential evolution with the aim of the content of humanbeing's visual characteristics about the image enhancement effect through the analysis ofmathematical morphological filtering properties and the characteristics of underwaterimages and the combination with the traditional homomorphic filter image enhancementmethod to improves the visibility of underwater images and makes the sharpness ofunderwater image achieve a relatively higher level. The main content of the paper is asfollows:Firstly, by analyzing the background of this study, researching status at home andabroad as well as traditional methods of underwater image enhancement, this paperintroduces the significance of research and then draws into the main contents of this paper.Secondly, designs the general diagram of mathematical morphology-basedunderwater image enhancement algorithm and then studies the selection rules of themorphological structure elements fit for this kind of algorithm as well as the filteringcharacteristics of the morphological filter.In addition, in order to improve the image enhancement effect, this paper contributesto the following points, that is, the introduction of differential evolution algorithm with theaim at determine the levels of sub-graph of the gain, and the setting about decompositionlevel of underwater image enhancement algorithm by means of experimental simulationand the experimental data, and the maximum evolution algebra of differential evolutionalgorithm. So this algorithm can obtain the best results in the shortest time and improvethe image processing efficiency.Finally, on the basis of the design of the general diagram of the underwater imageenhancement algorithm and the selection of the appropriate structural elements and the set of the parameters of differential evolution algorithm, this paper realizes the function of theunderwater image enhancement. In addition, the application of software design andsimulation experiment test the superiority of this algorithm. At the end, this paper makes aconclusion and research prospect.
