Photonic crystal emitter has a special radiate characteristics in thermal photovoltaic technology. In this paper, a new pure rare-earth emitter with the structure of inverse opal photonic crystal was prepared successfully, which combined with the band gap effect of the photonic crystal structure and selective effect of rare earth. The paper studied the relationship between the micro-structure and radiative properties of rare earth-photonic crystal emitter. In this paper, two kinds of approach were designed to prepare pure rare earth emitter with structure of photonic crystal, such as synchronous-assembly method, colloidal template method respectively. The process of colloidal assembly and heat treatment with anoparticles of oxide erbium and PS microspheres was studied. The required particle size difference of the two particles prepared was analysed by synchronous-assembly method at first. Secondly, the dispersibility of the particles was studied, and then a better suspension component was confirmed, and factors on the preparation were analyzed. The method of colloidal template was used to prepare rare earth-photonic crystal emitter, filling the colloidal template by the precursor transformation method and precursor permeation. High-quality PS template preparation process was studied in both precursor transformation method and precursor permeation method at first, and then the difference effects of substrates, materials, solvents precursor for preparation were studied. Compare to precursor transformation method, the precursor permeation method which could prepare a large area of higher penetrativity, orderly and with a certain thickness of rare earth emitters with the photonic crystal, is considered as a better preparation method. In order to optimize the precursor permeation method, the effects of aperture sizes and sintering temperature on the radiator effect were studied. Finally, better precursor permeation preparation process was determined. The optical properties of the rare earth emitters with photonic crystals were studied. First, softwares of Bandsolve and Translight were used to calculate the the band gap effect of the PS template with face-centered cubic structure and different lattice periods (700nm, 1.97μm, 3.13μm) in theoretical. The theoretical calculations and the actual measured results agree well. Cycles for different lattice photonic crystal rare earth emitters'reflectance spectrum were tested; radiation spectrums of the rare earth emitters with different photonic crystal lattice period were tested with high temperature, and its reflection and emission spectrums were analyzed.
