Because mobile Agent technology can allow intelligent Agent to move, execute and complete the tasks specified by the user over the internet autonomously, it has been applied in many areas, such as distributed systems, wireless networks and e-commerce. Mobile Agents can save network bandwidth and reduce the communication volume of data transfer between nodes with the attributes of mobility and autonomy.Mobile Agent-based third-generation e-commerce systems, which have overcome the shortcomings of traditional e-commerce technology, have grate prospect.The communication mechanism is one of the key technologies of mobile Agent. It is the foundation for realizing distributed applications. In a distributed environment, autonomous mobile Agent may cause communication failure or communications chase, however, the existing communication mechanisms can not be better to meet the needs of distributed applications in efficiency and reliability.Aiming at the shortcomings of Agent communication mechanism in existing researches, an improved communication mechanism LMCP is proposed on the base of the mailbox-based communication mechanism. The mechanism have the node Locator do the location management in the communication process. The number of information collected by Agent is applied to forecast the decision-mail migration. The communication costs can be reduced and communication efficiency can be improved. The fault-tolerant strategy of LMCP mechanism is also presented.First, the concept of Locator node on the path of mailbox migration is proposed in LMCP mechanism. Communication is divided into location management and information transmission. And their detailed implementation processes are presented. Then the threshold number of information received by Agent is defined and Agent can decide whether to migrate with mailbox or not. The steps of the algorithm are given later. In order to improve the reliability of LMCP mechanism, a fault-tolerant mechanism of Locator node load balance is proposed. Fault-tolerant is divided into three modules namely failure detection, failure recovery and load balance, the steps of each module's algorithm are presented.Finally, simulation experiments are performed to verify the performance of the LMCP mechanism on the aglet platform. LMCP is compared with ARP. How to choose the threshold and its impact on the performance of mechanism are also analyzed. The results show that LMCP enhances the adaptability, solves the problem of communication failure better, communication overhead becomes small and communication efficiency becomes more higher.
