The opportunity network is a wireless network, in which links between nodes varywith the time and space. It can be applied in the Military Ad hoc Networks, WildAnimal Tracking Network, and Wireless Sensor Network. The opportunity networkfaces critical environment, such as network break up frequently, long delay, limitationof buffer and energy of nodes and so on, which lead to the randomly interruption oflinks, so that it is difficult to maintain an entire link between the source node and thedestination. Consequently, the traditional routing cannot be applied in this kind ofnetwork quite well. Recently, various new techniques which are suitable for theopportunity networks are raised by researchers. And to pose routing protocols toimprove the performance of the network is the focus of the research. The paper firstly introduces the definition, architecture, character and applicationof the opportunity network briefly and gives summarizes of those traditional routing, and then presents the message ferry routing protocol in detail. Meanwhile, on account ofthe problem that most multiple ferry routing protocols need a certain number of relaynodes, a new multiple ferry routing protocol named Global Ferry Scheme(GFS) wasproposed, which let different ferries communicate with each other directly without relaynodes to increase the delivery ratio, decrease the average delivery delay and saveresources. In order to let the opportunity network be close to real life, a new networkmodel named city country model which combines city and country was raised. And thenwe enforce the Direct Ferry (DF) protocol based on the model, and give the formula tocalculate the theoretical average delivery delay. Finally, Aim at that existing work hasnot given the theoretical buffer value of ferry, through the theoretical analysis we get thetheoretical buffer value of ferry in order to prevent dropping and save resource. In this paper, ONE(Opportunity Networks Environment)was chose to prove thatGFS has better performance in both delivery ratio and average delivery delay than therouting protocol which use relay nodes. We prove that the DF protocol has loweraverage delivery delay than the routing protocol which use relay nodes by usingMATLAB in city country model. And then we do numerical analysis on the theoreticalbuffer value of ferry by using MATLAB.
