Color calibration technology is one of the most important technologies in large format and high-intensity tiled multiple projectors display system. The current hardware color calibration technology is lack of real-time and precision, but with higher cost or long haul. A bran-new color calibration technology based on ICC (International Color Consortium) color management system is proposed to solve the problem within the tiled multiple projectors display system. Three different RGBâ†'CIE XYZ color space conversion models are innovatively compared. BP neural network model is the best model for RGBâ†'CIE XYZ color space conversion.A tiled two-projector display system is taken as a case. Some details are included in this paper:1. Summarize and analyze the existing color calibration technology at home and abroad, propose a bran-new color calibration method based on the ICC color management system being used in the tiled multiple projectors display system.2. Create an ICC profile for describing the color attribute of the projector, program a software to read and modify the information of the ICC profile.3. Propose two conventional mathematical model methods to optimize the ICC profiles: the first method is based on Least Square Method; the second one is based on Color Principal Component Correction Algorithm.4. The new color calibration method based on BP neural network is proposed on the count of the lack of precision of the conventional mathematical model methods. And this method is validated through the theoretical analysis and the subjective-objective evaluation to be the best method for projectors'color space conversion.Innovation of this paper is mainly reflected in:1. For the first time, the BP neural network model is used for the projectors'color space conversion.2. Three different RGBâ†'CIE XYZ color space conversion models are innovatively compared. BP neural network model is the best model for RGBâ†'CIE XYZ color space conversion.3. An evaluation criterion draft is proposed for the display color quality of projectors for the first time, and the draft is feasible and effective in the evaluation system.The research idea and the technology proposed in this paper will be bran-new, and it will be the basic theoretical and experimental reference for solving the color problem which existed in the tiled multiple projectors display system.
