With the development of navy in modem war and many advanced naval ships armed in navy, the technique for automatic target recognition of naval ships become more important-Therefore the technique of recognition of infrared naval ships becomes important research task in automatic recognition of infrared target with highly academic and practical value. However, because war field and the background of the sea-sky ground are usually comparatively complex, and the target recognition characteristics are greatly influenced by the weather, it is not only very difficult but also very challenging to recognize the targets of infrared naval ships. The paper focuses on a study of this subject. In this paper, based on the background of study task, we analyze the characteristics of naval ships in infrared image. We made a comparison and integration on various image pre-process algorithms, then analyze the impact of different structural elements to the morphological filter. Describes the characteristics of the target selection criteria, based on this scoring system was proposed based on the target identification process for different goals, The advantage of this classifier is that it makes the ATR system more reliable as different features play different role in the process of ATR based on their reliability.Based on surface ship target recognition, the paper introduces the multi-based template matching gray feature tracking algorithm, and the traditional template update method has been improved. Depends on the speed of image matching algorithm matches the search strategy, in order to accelerate the speed of image matching, this paper proposes a new global parallel climbing search strategy, purposes to fast image matching .
