With the rapid development of modern sensor technology, microelectronics technology, communication technology, embedded computing technology and the distributed information processing technology, Wireless Sensor Networks is being taken as a new computing model to promote the development of technology and the progress of society which has become one of the commanding heights and focus of international technology competition.?Wireless Sensor Networks has been considered one of huge influence technologies in 21st century with great potential applications.?The far-reaching meaning of Wireless Sensor Networks is its ability to promote the development of related subject and bring the profound changes in society. Under this research environment, this paper implemented the design of hardware and software and researched related theory.This paper designed the hardware and software systems of Wireless Sensor Networks after the depth studying of the theory of Wireless Sensor Networks and the development of embedded system.?In order to reduce the overall energy consumption of the network, improve the accuracy and efficiency of data collection, this paper researched data aggregation algorithm on the design system.?In this paper, there are mainly three aspects discussed which are the design of hardware, the design of software and the research of data aggregation algorithm.?In the design of hardware part, this paper designed the sensor nodes based on CC2430/CC2431 and the gateway node based on CC2430 and S3C2440A, what's more, discussed the rule of the design of RF circuits and high speed circuit and important issues needed to analysis.?In the design of software part, this paper designed the application procedures based on Z-Stack which could implement data collection, data transmission and localization in sensor nodes; design the ZigBee network management procedures of CC2430 coordinator in gateway node; migrated bootloader, linux2.6 kernel and drives, yaffs2 file system and designed the serial application procedures which could implement the bidirectional communication between different networks.?In the research of algorithm part, this paper researched hierarchical data aggregation algorithm based on the adaptive weighted and LZW compression, simulated the algorithm in MATLAB, gave the implementation of the algorithm and tested the performance of data aggregation on hardware platform.Finally,through tested the network building of the sensor nodes, the data collection and transmission of sensor node, the location of sensor nodes and this paper verified the validity of the design, summarized the inadequacies of the system, proposed the issues needed to improve and the direction of efforts in the future.
