Water resources becoming more and more precious in China, correspondingly the demand for measurement's accuracy of water flow through section of open channel is higher and higher, the subject- auto monitoring system for water flow through sections of open channe's development, derived from a R & D project of Xi'an Wotai Technology Co. Ltd, requiring high accuracy of the developed flow meter and suitable for reservoirs and large drawing water, urban water supply and other large flow's measurement, and also simple control and low cost.This paper briefly reviews the history of use ultrasound multi-beam measuring water depth, water flow, from the basic principle of ultrasound measuring water depth, described the composition of multi-beam systems and measuring principle, proposes the design ideas ofl automatic monitoring system for water flow through a section of open channel river, the main contents are as follows:(1)Studying the formation theory of multi-beam, with the commonly used two type of array structures in practice, analyzed and compared the real symmetric matrix linear array, uniform rectangular array, with specific requirements of research and development projects, proposed seven elements hexagonal array and designed the directed beam graph.(2)Detailed design the hardware of automatic monitoring system of Water flow through the cross-section of open channel and improve the intelligent circuit of the flow meter, design the self-storage, the self-processing circuit, complete real-time stored the test data of clock memory chips on the flow, realized local store, reading of flow meter's internal information, and ensure the data query and extraction at time of repairing and maintenance.(3)Complete the corresponding software design. Make the flow meter with automatic report number, automatic sampling, automatic storage and other functions and tested at Shanxi Yuncheng Dayudu Reservoir.(4)Analyzed test data from water flow's automatic monitoring system, proposed specific adjust programs to further improve the test accuracy of water flow through the section.Experiments show that automatic monitoring system operate stability, easy to use, low power consumption, control accuracy within 3%. So the whole system meets the design requirements.
