There is no doubt that Video-on-Demand (VoD) nowadays is one of the most popular network applications on the Internet. The VoD applications upon the P2P network, which combined with the advantages (the automatic load balancing and high fault tolerance) of P2P technology, have become a new trend of VoD development. This thesis advanced a new media bit-stream model system KadPeer based on the decentralized Kademlia overlay network, considering with the drawbacks of over-reliance on central nodes in centralized and semi-centralized P2P network.The key technologies used in the system:the scheme on publishing and searching of OGG media file in Kademlia network was advanced, so as to suit with the requirement of bit-stream service; taking advantage of OGG package encapsulation technology, the method of splitting the media file into chunks in the publishing port and restructuring the stream chunks in the receiving port has been proposed; the metadata format, which contained the rate of video, the channel number of audio, the caption and some other elements, and metadata management was defined; main components of OGG codec have been modified so as to support video, audio and caption service, and the way to integrate Kademlia network and OGG codec components was brought forward.
