Along with the ungent need of infrared optical fiber materials in the area of military, defense, medical especially recently developed in 2 microns infrared optical fiber laser used in medicine make for the research of infrared optical fiber is more urgent. because crystal growth has a longer period, high cost, complicated preparation process, drawing and detection performance is poor so they do not fit for two-micron laser applications Similarly the toxicity of fluoride glass. mechanical strength, chemical stability factors, yet to achieve better practical value. Currently there are common used silicate matrix material series, but the silicate glass matrix higher phonon energy (about 1100cm-1) non-radiative transitions dominate the energy loss, resulting in a lower quantum efficiency of ions, the laser can not get a good parameters. Therefore, we choose silicate structure similar to but lower phonon energy of germanate glasses as a matrix material, it not only has the low phonon energy and also that good physical and chemical properties of non-toxic, good mechanical strength, is expected to a more suitable substrate material. In the paper we selected holmium ions as exciting ions, but taking into account the Ho3+single doped glass, due to non-radiative transition dominant, laser production efficiency is lower, choosing thulium ion as sensitizing ion.which not only can improve the laser efficiency but also allows the pump matching with specific wavelengths to inspire.By plenty of experiments to determine the need to meet the optical and chemical properties of the glass matrix formula 65GeO2-10B2O3-7BaF2-10Na2O-4Al2O3-4ZnO2,also through a large number of experiments by fluorescence spectroscopy to determine the best of the holmium and thulium sensitized ratio is 0.1:0.7,get the infrared optical fiber materials which has the better ability of laser.Use the method of high temperature melting method to pour molten glass perform.by adjusting the feed speed and drawing speed to control the diameter of fiber finally get a good mechanical properties of fiber, which proved the selected matrix material not only to meet in optics requirements, but also canbe pulledinto fiber.
